EyeQue Raises $11.2 Million in Series B to Bring At-Home Vision Testing to the Masses

NEWARK, Calif.—EyeQue, which makes vision testing devices for consumers, announced that it has raised $11.2 million in a Series B round from existing investors. EyeQue’s patented technology allows people to test their vision, check if they need vision correction and use the results to order eyeglasses online. This Series B investment brings the total equity raised to date to $16.2 million. “At-home vision testing has the potential to dramatically improve the well-being of millions of people worldwide,” said Tibor Laczay, co-founder and CEO of EyeQue. “Over 2.5 billion people across the globe need glasses and don’t have them—whether they don’t have access to solutions, can’t afford them, or may not even realize their vision is impaired due to a lack of health care services. At-home vision testing is more necessary than ever, and this round of financing will enable us to further pursue our dream of making vision care accessible and affordable to everyone.” Laczay is also co-founder and CEO of Zenni Optical, one of the largest online optical retailers.

EyeQue does not issue eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions, but consumers can use the measurements generated by its Insight visual acuity screener and Personal Vision tracker to order prescription eyeglasses from Zenni, as well as from some other online retailers. Although EyeQue said the devices are designed to “eliminate extraneous trips to the optometrist,” the company recommends that people visit an eyecare professional annually to receive a complete eye health exam.

In other news, EyeQue announced that William H. Robinson, MD, professor of medicine at Stanford University, has joined its board of directors. Dr. Robinson is a pioneer of innovative personal health care and will provide valuable insight and guidance to the team, EyeQue said.
